To be honest we have neglected some maintenance on our bikes because we really thought we would be the owners of the Triumph Tigers at the end of the trip.
Since that did not happen on with the up keep of our bikes. Recently I got new steering head bearings installed by the dealer but Cheryl will do her own. Before our trip at about 38,000 KM my chain had it and a new DID and sprockets were installed. I have gone through one throttle cable and my bike now has over 43,000 KM since I bought it March 2010. Cheryl’s bike now has 32,000 KM since December 2009.
We do our own oil & filter changes as well as brake pads. Today I needed new front pads and Cheryl also installed them. Galfer pads are our choice these days as well as Lucas oil and K&N filters. We want to just have BMW do the major things like the dreaded valve inspection. Mine is due but will wait a bit longer.
With a little help from a manual, Cheryl has completed her first chain and sprocket installation. I think Cheryl is pretty amazing, she tries anything and always figures it out!
Of course a little DIY video to come later. Cheryl got 32,000 KM out of her OEM chain and sprockets. I got 38,000 KM but that was really pushing it. It was very apparent after this weekends ride it was time for Cheryl to get new one’s for herself.
Sprocket Center is where we bought our DID chains and sprockets. Decent price and great online service.
TEST ride a success!
