Back to the Start – meaningful animation

Coldplay’s haunting classic ‘The Scientist’ is performed by country music legend Willie Nelson for the soundtrack of the short film entitled, “Back to the Start.” Download the song now available on iTunes. Label and proceeds benefit The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation. http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-scientist-single/id458479961

The film, by film-maker Johnny Kelly, depicts the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory before seeing the errors of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future. Both the film and the soundtrack were commissioned by Chipotle to emphasize the importance of developing a sustainable food system.

Humpback Whale Shows AMAZING Appreciation After Being Freed From Nets

Michael Fishbach, co-founder of The Great Whale Conservancy (GWC), narrates his encounter with a young humpback whale entangled in local fishing nets.

At first, the animal appeared to be dead, yet Fishbach investigated and quickly discovered that the poor creature was tangled in a fishing net. The humans had to act fast; what began as a tragedy soon became a thrilling rescue as Fishbach and his crew labored to free the young whale. The entire encounter was caught on videotape and later narrated by Fishbach himself.

This young whale knows how to show appreciation by treating them to a magnificent aerial spectacle after it was finally freed.

AMAZING story of courage….

EAST SIDE STORIES DIARY OF A VANCOUVER BEAT COP

Living with a police officer opens my eyes to things, people and problems that I don’t see first hand while working in a Downtown Hospital.  The police are first responders and my partner Cheryl is one of them.  This blog, while maybe we all do not want to see or hear what life on the streets is really like…opens up your mind to hear, see and think about those who have serious drug addictions, mental health and over all down and out life styles.  Continue reading

Repeat Post of our Video with Ray Jardine

I love this video of Ray after riding all the way from Deadhorse to Fairbanks.  Ray Jardine is an amazing man…just Google his name.  Ray was a great riding partner for the 800 KM we did on July 16th, 2011.  we went through rain, sludge, mud and as predicted by Cheryl the sun came out once we hit the Yukon River Crossing.

I recorded this video as we pulled over to clean our shields just about 90KM outside Fairbanks.  In any case….I really like raw video…just a spontaneous discussion by all of us as to how the day went.  And…what a day that was…one we will never forget!

Did Apple redefine photography with the iPhone?

iphone

Could smart phones be the answer to photography equipment consolidation?  We know that in order to document a trip we seem to bring a ton of electronic gear.  Too much we believe…could these phones, specifically the iPhone help to minimize the need for a camcorder, digital point and shoot and even a DSLR?

Thanks RichardM a BLOG reader for this link…I said would be nice to have the iPhone H20 proof, shock proof, dust proof etc…and Richard posted this link  LIFE PROOF CASES CLICK HERE

One of the interesting facts we learned from the Steve Jobs biography is that he planned to revolutionize photography, and he may well have achieved that. Walter Isaacson wrote about Jobs, saying, “He had three things that he wanted to reinvent: the television, textbooks and photography. He really wanted to take these on.”

Bald Eagle Heaven – Harrison Mills, BC

When not out riding my other love, other than my partner and dogs is wildlife.  Bald Eagles especially.  If you have been following this BLOG you will know this about me…Leslie.

Every year between November and early January Bald Eagles show up along the Fraser River in and around Harrison Mills, BC located about an hour East of where we live in Maple Ridge.  The reason thousands of eagles and many other birds like it here is because of the abundant amount of salmon.  The Chelahlis Flats is an important wildlife and fish habitat.  Spawning salmon arrive in the Fall and the Eagles have feast eating the carcass’ of the dead fish.  David Hancock, a Biologist studies this area and has a love and passion for eagles.  I know David and he recently was quoted saying that we might have the largest concentration of eagles in one area in the world.  Even more than Alaska now.  This years count has been over 7,000 eagles.

MACLAREN RIVER LODGE ON THE DENALI HIGHWAY

The Denali Highway

Mile 42 on the Denali Highway is the Maclaren River Lodge owned and operated by Alan and Susie with their gracious host Heidi when we visited this lodge on our Alaskan Adventure Summer 2011.  We arrived on a really rainy day, it was cold and we were hungry.  As usual not really planning where and when we would stop we came across the Lodge.  Settled into our rooms, Heidi gave us a space heater, went back to the restaurant, ate, used the WiFi and drank beer.  Most impressively was we were able to get warm and were greeted by very nice folks.
