ARE YOU AN ORGAN DONOR? Now that I got your attention…..please read

This is not a post to lecture anyone about whether or not you should be a registered organ donor but a post about raising awareness about the need for organ donation, my new career, my latest trip to Toronto to visit Trillium Gift for Life Network and see first hand how Hospital Coordinators perform their role and my visit to Toronto in February. Also, to let you in on how complicated organizing the retrieval and getting organs to the recipients really is in real life. Many people believe once a family consents to organ donation there are these people who show up with coolers to just take the organs. There is wayyyyyyyy more to this!

I won’t bore you with stats either but organs save many lives and long wait lists speak volumes. This is not just for the motorcyclist out there, I hope everyone will read through this post.

****If you take anything away from this post I hope it’s this: Talk about what you would want if something were to happen to you. Meeting organ donation criteria is very difficult even if you want to be a donor but what is even more difficult is watching families struggle with the question, “would he/she want to be a donor?” If you are not registered at least have the conversation with a loved one what your wishes would be in a time when you can not advocate for yourself. I have been with too many families and friends of patients who just did not know the answer because end of life discussions never occurred and by the time they meet someone like me it is too late.****

Let someone know! Can’t hurt to have your last wish become a life saving one.

WHO WANTS TO GO TO ICELAND WITH US?

This guy Joe who visited Iceland has been one of the reasons we want to go to Iceland and ride our bikes.  I have read a few ride reports and of course have been reading about this mysterious land and country.  I truly believe spending about 3 to 4 weeks riding around Iceland would be a dream come true.  The landscape is so different and beautiful….who wants to come along???? ;-) Be sure to watch the video!

After several days of prep work, the Transworld Tour bike is officially in the stable. I took it out for a 100 mile ride this afternoon, and I must say that Happy Trails Products did a fine job assembling the 'Green Hornet.' 25 Beautifully Illustrated Thought-Provoking Questions

Since I have embarked in to a new career after 13 years working as a Clinical Social Worker in an Intensive Care Unit, I am forced to think about things other than motorcycles.  My new career, Organ Donation Coordinator in a hospital makes me question so many things in my life.  It is scary to go from a job where I was unconsciously competent to a job that I am consciously incompetent.  Well, that is how I feel at the moment and can only hope one day I will feel competent.  In any case, the questions below, although can be considered a bit corny are really thought-provoking.  My brain does at times feel like it is going to burst with all the new information I am taking in….with all the learning I need to do but after this trip to Toronto I am feeling a little more confident I made the right decision to take this job.

We are interested to hear answers to some of the questions….please feel free to post any comments and let us all know how folks would answer these.  ;-)   Thanks.

My New Panasonic GF3 Camera – Micro Four Thirds

I need to work out the low light issues I am having with this camera.  Can’t seem to figure out how to get more light without using the flash indoors as well as outdoors.  I have not loaded the manual yet thought I could figure this out on my own.  I will be enrolling in a 3 hour class as soon as I can to learn more about this new camera and how to work it better as well as just take awesome pictures.  I am in no way a photographer but I am at the point in my life I really want to learn more.  I will never be great because I lack patience and artistic flare but I can learn to improve.
