2012 has been an interesting year...Leslie got a new job and is now working for BC Transplant as an Organ Donation Coordinator and Organ Donation Specialist.
Cheryl continues to do well in her police career and we got engaged. Wedding will be next August 2013. More info please read below.
Cheryl and I met in 1997 in Bellingham, Washington. We kept in touch over the year via the internet plus flying back and forth. Before we both knew it I moved all the way across the country to a new country no less in march 1998 and been here ever since. I, meaning Leslie grew up in New York on Long Island where her family still remains except my brother.
Went to College in upstate NY and grad school back on Long Island where I got my Masters Degree in Social Work. In 1999 I started working as an Intensive Care Unit Social Worker at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC and loved my job after all those years.
Cheryl grew up in the lower mainland of BC and many of her family members are here as well. Beautiful place to grow up and go to school. Throughout Cheryl's teenage years and adulthood she worked for her mother's family business. However, at the ripe old age of 35 she decided to embark upon a career in law enforcement which she has been enjoying for over 5 years. Cheryl has found a passion within the Police force working with kids in schools.
We have been together as partner's for 15 years and after Cheryl graduated Depot (Police Training) we both got motorcycles and our licenses. I grew up on bikes and Cheryl always wanted to learn to ride. Learning was easy for Cheryl and getting back on a bike for me just made sense. Cheryl thinks I am obsessed with bikes but to be honest once she is on the road I can't stop her.
Cheryl loves video games, I love wild life, Cheryl dreams about white sandy tropical beaches, I dream about seeing the polar bears in Hudson Bay, Manitoba.
Opposites attract and we both share a passion for adventure motorcycle touring. We learned this after buying our first 2010 BMW F650GS bikes. We travel well together making sure we are both taking care of ourselves. Cheryl is the brains, mechanic, navigator and packer, I am the organizer/planner.
Cheryl is the quiet one, I am the loud New Yorker. Cheryl loves video games, I love live web cams featuring Bald Eagles, Falcons, osprey's and Owls. In the end it seems to work.
II think that the second photo was pretty successful. HDR is challenging, especially if you don’t want it to have that HDR look.
I thought the third was a keeper…no? I wanted to make the bridge look a little HDR but subtle
I think the bridge is the best. Adorama Camera has good instructional videos for free on their website. Worth a look-see.
yeah it’s harder than one thinks…thanks for the resource. I like the bridge too.
The bridge pic is pretty much on the mark, no haloing and nice crisp detail… something has gone a bit skew-whiff with the shadow regions on the first and (to a lesser extent) second images, almost like the shadows were enhanced a bit too far via software on the computer?
Does your camera have a manual mode? If so, once you set the correct exposure you can take a range by adjusting the shutter speed up and down from the optimal value… alternatively if there is an exposure compensation function at a minimum you could try -2, 0 and +2 EV (or -4, -2, 0, +2, +4 EV etc for a broader range) – the idea being that you can construct the HDR without having to digitally manipulate the photographs beforehand. I think you’ll have some great shots in no time!
Cheryl has to learn to be a pro photographer for her new job…I LOVE THAT! I have little or no patience really for photography and like to just play around as you can tell with my attempts of HDR. but now we will have a real photographer who will hopefully do great in her new role but also when we go away take MUCH better pis than I do!
Assuming she gets an SLR as part of the deal, once you get your hands on it you’ll never go back, shame they are not exactly compact or lightweight but I guess that’s where the micro 4/3s market comes in… I have a Nikon d7000 for work but sadly don’t get the opportunity to play with fancier techniques on a day to day basis, but might try to borrow it on my alpine trip this summer… It’s got 2 user settings modes which I’ve programmed for a 9-shot EV range that I’m dying to try out… Maybe this weekend
Cheryl all ready was given about $6000 of equipment. Yes DSLR, Nikon too. They are all getting the new Nikon D800′s or something like that….she is totally enjoying all this new stuff and learning.
Nice one, the d800 won’t leave anyone wanting for much, very jealous
Not bad for someone who is a beginner but on a serious note the RCMP IHIT group need great cameras for the investigative work they have to do….
Sounds very interesting – the photography side of my job is a slightly less macabre, making nurses/doctors look their best and occasionally documenting surgical procedures… Scrubs tend not to be the most flattering garments as I’m sure we’re all well aware… Fortunately most of our imagery is waist up so the crocs aren’t usually visible
I work in Healthcare maybe you can make me look better….I am happy for Cheryl…she has been “reborn” with being a cop
