Longing for the Open Road – Memories of our 2010 BMW F650GS Bikes

Since we seem to not be able to get away on a decent rode trip this year I am entertaining myself with pics from our 2010 Cross Country Trip…and other trips.  In 2010 we both got our first Beemers and we picked mine up in March 2010, Cheryl’s in Dec 2009.  By June 2010 we were off for 26 days to ride across Canada and the USA.  No planning just learned by ourselves what to pack and how to navigate ourselves.

I hope we are tempting all you street riders to come to the ADV side of dual sporting….enjoy….

BMW DEMO DAY

Went down to our dealer on Sunday, May 5th to check out the BMW Demo day.  I was not able to reserve a spot to test ride anything because of work and when I arrived all the bikes were signed out.  Signed out for every ride no less.

Pacific Motosports

Hosted the ride and all riders got to go out for at least an hour on the bikes.  There were demo’s of almost every bike they make except the new 800 Adventure was not there. I really wanted to ride the F800GT and the new 1200 but I just watched and then enjoyed a great solo ride in the exceptional heat.  It was over 30 C or 90 F yesterday.  Cheryl was at work and I just rode around to decompress from my work.   May have to purchase a smaller tent for myself soon.  Cheryl’s new job is not as flexible with days off and I have a feeling I will be doing some rallies unfortunately alone.

We might have to wait a bit until Cheryl settles in and gets through her apprenticeship before we start making any real bike plans.  As for me?  I need to embrace solo riding which might be good…I hope we both can attend the BMW MOA rally in Salem, Oregon together but I don’t think Cheryl will be able to get to the Touratech event in June or some local rides our dealer has set up like this one.. Ottawa & Old Montreal (Part II)

We took the train from Ottawa to Montreal which was great the way there.  Unexpectedly I bought economy business class seats which included a full course meal that was actually good.  Plus, alcohol, snacks etc.  All for about $10 more than the regular economy class.  On the way back all those seats were sold out and we were out of luck but heading to Montreal was a treat…literally!

After arriving at the Montreal station we walked about 15 mins through town to get to our very contemporary yet warm and inviting hotel Continue reading

Ottawa & Montreal Recap (part I)

Not often do Cheryl and I get away without our bikes but when we do we make the best if it.  Visiting Cheryl in Ottawa while she continues her training for the IDENT section of the RCMP was great to walk about and see all the sights and sounds of these two Canadian cities.

We live in BC, Canada as many who read this blog know but heading to Ottawa and Old Montreal we both felt like we were in a totally different country.  While French is the official second language of Canada, most do not speak it in BC.  Having said that Ottawa and especially Old Montreal French dominates everyday chat.  Made us feel a little insecure as we both do not speak French.

’13 BMW F800GS – Wrong Turn In the Right Way

Went for a ride on March 8th and came across a new dirt road.  First time with the F800 off road and ran into a rough new forest road.  It was good for me to get back off the pavement but because I did not have water, tools and my SPOT, I turned around to be safe.  Will go back to explore soon though.  Watch in HD and full screen seems to work best! I edited this down a lot…

JAPAN Pushes the Blog over 1 Million

Over night Japan loving our post about The World’s Biggest Cave has pushed the blog over 1 MILLION hits.  Japan has been using Twitter to spread the word about this post and is still going strong.  We can’t really take credit as this popular post is not an original of ours but we do THANK Japan for thinking it’s cool enough to tweet.

So, thanks again to everyone who reads this BLOG, every country and region.  1 Million since July 2011 is not too shabby….we shall carry on and look forward to our next goal of 2 Million!  THANK YOU from our family to yours!
