196 Countries in the World

This is wicked….there are 196 countries in the world and 164 have visited our BLOG at least once.  We are so thankful so many places have taken a look at what is going on here and seem to come back too.  I feel like we once again need to thank everyone for making this BLOG so much fun!

Do you see your country on this map?

Spring Newbie / Social Ride March 25, 2012

Cheryl is sleeping in and I am heading out to the annual Spring ride sponsored by many local businesses and of course Dual Sport BC.  Here is what I can expect for the bigger ADV bikes and I will probably be the only grrl riding an ADV bike.  If there are any other grrls there they will most likely be on a dirt bike.  That is at least what I have seen in the past on these rides.  Too bad more grrls do not get out.  Hopefully if I don’t crash I can get some decent pics and video.  Wish me luck! ;-)

HUGE THANK YOU TO FELLOW ADV RIDERS DEB & GARY FROM ANCHORAGE!

This is our favorite post…please watch and see what two ADV riders who housed us and took care of us while we were in Anchorage, AK summer 2011.  We just got the BEST gift ever in the mail…probably one of the most thoughtful gifts to be honest!  Thanks guys you rock!

250,000 HITS! Another Big Thank You!

(I will fix screen shots of the specific country lists when I get home from work tonight.)

Sometime over night we hit 250,000 on our BLOG.  Such an awesome response to something that started out so spontaneous because of our partnership with Triumph last summer.  Over the 9 months we have learned so much from all the comments, the maps we keep to see where you are all from and much about social media and blogging.  Still have so much to learn but I tell you it’s been so much fun researching and posting what we hope are interesting and at times different topics.

We have to be honest some of the countries visiting this site we have never heard of but thanks to the next few pics I will be posting we are also getting a great lesson in geography. Is your country listed?

Once again Cheryl and I would really like to thank all of you in help making this little blog such a success and we will continue to try to keep it real and fresh!  Hope everyone comes back, comments once in a while and as always feedback is welcomed!  Take a look at the world below as we see it! Best Adventure Motorcycle 2011: Triumph Tiger 800 XC

Do you agree??????????

By Motorcycle USA Staff

Friday, December 30, 2011

Triumph manufactured a lot of hype for the Tiger 800, so it was a real treat to discover the British mount lived up to expectations. Not just a shrunken version of its big brother Tiger, the 800 was a purpose-built Adventure bike. Triumph even obliged an off-road oriented version, the XC, which features wire-spoked wheels and is easily the most dirt-capable Trumpet produced by the modern Hinkley company.

aug-11-11-canon-312

Our BLOG really started in June 2011 and since our inception we have turned over 100,000 hits sometime today, January 10th, 2012.  To be honest I thought after we were finished with Triumph the BLOG would die but that has not been the case because of all of you and it has become part of my daily routine. NEW YORK, NEW YORK–ONE HELL OF A TOWN (click on pics make them larger)

***December 27th – Jan 5th 2012 (Scroll slowly through pics there are A few short videos so you can get a feel for NYC if you have never been there)  We both highly recommend putting this city on your bucket list!***

I will start off with our video I made on the plane heading to NY…it will fill everyone in about our sneaky trip.  BTW…we fly business class with mileage and could never afford to buy these tickets…that is why no matter how many times we fly on Cathay in business class we never can get enough.

Our goofy behaviour on board the plane

Should have recorded the “Holy Shit” Comment

Cheryl and I were successful in our sneak attack visiting my parents in NY…I should have recorded when we walked in because my father, who never really curses, said “HOLY SHIT”.  I was just too excited to stop and get the camera out!

We totally were able to keep this a surprise.  Because we went on a 2 month motorcycle trip this summer we thought we could not make it to NY this year.  However, since I got a new job I was able to take 3 weeks in between jobs hence the surprise trip.  We are also here for my mother’s 75th birthday.

How often can you ever sneak across the countries, Canada and the US and walk right into the house when you knew your parents would be home having coffee etc…and scare the crap at of the hem in a good way?  Once in a lifetime, like our trip this summer.

Here is a short video of our business class ride in!

Repeat Post of our Video with Ray Jardine

I love this video of Ray after riding all the way from Deadhorse to Fairbanks.  Ray Jardine is an amazing man…just Google his name.  Ray was a great riding partner for the 800 KM we did on July 16th, 2011.  we went through rain, sludge, mud and as predicted by Cheryl the sun came out once we hit the Yukon River Crossing.

I recorded this video as we pulled over to clean our shields just about 90KM outside Fairbanks.  In any case….I really like raw video…just a spontaneous discussion by all of us as to how the day went.  And…what a day that was…one we will never forget!

“Oasis in the Middle of Nowhere”

Dalton Highway is North of Fairbanks

ADVGRRLS Review of BOREAL LODGE off the DALTON HIGHWAY on Trip Adviser

Much nicer and cheaper than Coldfoot!  You should remember this place if you are going to ride the Dalton! ;-) We promised the owners of this lodge we would post a review on Trip Adviser and I finally got around to doing just that…the review was just approved.

We rode our motorcycles up the Dalton Highway this summer, 2011 and were told about this Lodge by some fellow ADV riders. Much better than the Coldfoot accommodations and half the price. Only about 13 miles north of Coldfoot and 3 miles off the Dalton and you get a wonderful host family, clean facilities and just a nice place to stay warm for the night en-route to Deadhorse. Don’t expect cook meals but the main Lodge has some canned goods and staple foods for you to buy. Coldfoot is not far away if yo must have someone cook for you.

OUR 2010 BEEMERS MEGA PIC POST

We have both owned 2010 BMW F650GS aka F798Gsa bikes since 2010. Check back here every so often for new pics!

We have made this street version of the GS family more off-road worthy by adding some crash protection, better tires, added a beak to look more like its big brother the 800GS, have changed our chains to DID, we use Galfer brake pads which we feel last longer and are better than OEM, hand guards, Fastway pegs, Jesse Safari 8 inch luggage, Denali auxiliary lights, better headlamps bulbs than OEM, built-in heat controllers for our Gerbing’s heated gear, headlamp protector, larger Cee Bailey wind shield, we use K&N oil filters, semi synthetic oil, change this at about 15,000 KM, Renazco seat, Wunderlich tank bags, Kaoko lock (not used that much), rad protector and some other protection covers, side stand extender made by MOTOROVERLAND (MOD), ( we used a Touratech side extender for the 2010 trip) and perhaps a few things we have over looked.

Another reason to do this BLOG is for those who are just embarking on ADV riding or wanting to buy this DS bike hopefully you guys and gals might just learn a few things that we have tried and either succeeded or not.  We are not professionals but every day average riders so we hope most can relate.  if there are any questions please post here.  For the guys and gals out there who ride, feel free to read the comments and share your own success stories or secrets.  The more info we can provide here the better the newbies will feel asking questions in public.

Remember there are NO dumb questions!

Here are some of our pics of the Beemers….

Also, here are 2 maps of the States and Provinces we have been to….we have so much riding to do in north America!

HARDER THAN I THOUGHT!

Tried to take some pics on my way home from work during Friday rush hour and I was not very successful.  Plus, the beautiful day turned gray.  But here are some pics anyway of my hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, where I have been working since 1998.  I am just about to embark on a new career but more about that in the New Year. ;-)

Heading into the free parking cage we have at work

THE WORLD MAP – This is where you are!

Every day we get updates since I added this little map widget to our BLOG….it is wicked to see when and where people check in.  Where are you on the map?  Click to enlarge the pictures.

Once again Cheryl and I thank everyone for keeping this BLOG alive!
