VANCOUVER Motorcycle Show @ Abbotsford, BC

Cheryl and I rode out to the Vancouver Show Saturday to check out the latest and greatest. Not that we haven’t been keeping an eye out for all these great bikes but seeing them in person is always a treat. Riding out to the show we were confronted with our infamous FOG. Cold out and frosty, this fog makes it almost impossible to see. At times it freezes on your shield but the real nuisance is how the fog saturates your shield making you wish you actually had a wind shield wiper.
Both Cheryl and I agree riding in this type of FOG is not fun and we would rather be poured on versus this crap. Having said that, there were pockets where the sun broke through and the glare off the wet roads was blinding. Sun glasses came out, FOG rolled back in and it was like this to the show and back home. We only live about 40 minutes away from Abbostford but riding in this stuff makes it seem further. In the end worth it though, we get to park for free and right in front of the entrance. Anyone driving a cage by the time we got there, around noon had to park FAR away and paid!

We took the BMW R1200GS, Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere, Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 and KTM 990 Adventure on an off-road adventure and to really test their abilities, we enlisted Stan Watt, who finished 34th in this year’s Dakar Rally.

Adventure Touring with the KTM 990 and Yamaha Super Ténéré
This is a really good video showing 2 riders who are just regular guys enjoying a Yamaha Super Tenere and a KTM 990. Wes is funny about riding the Yamaha off road. This is really worth watching the entire video….one of the better one’s out there I think because they actually show a dump and accident. Real stuff. Enjoy.

Not sure why a motorcycle company in this day and age would post a non HD video but Yamaha did on the Tube. Although not in HD it is a rather good video to advertise their Yamaha XT 1200 Z S Super Tenere.

YAMAHA Y125 MOEGI CONCEPT
Got this great info from a new friend we made while in Anchorage this summer on our Alaskan Adventure. Gary and his wife Deb practically saved us from being homeless while we waited in Anchorage for the Triumph Tiger’s that we were riding to get “fixed” after experiencing stalling issues for 1000’s of kilometers. While the fix did not work permanently when we were away, the good news is that 10 days after we got back Triumph had a world wide recall ready for all owners out there. It appears the stalling is no longer an issue for the Tiger’s.

I think this bike is a great idea if you lived in a city and or near work. In our cases, both Cheryl and I live about an hour or more from work and commute on highways. Maybe not a bike for our type of commute but for others? Probably more feasible.
Yamaha Y125 MOEGI Slated for Tokyo Motor Show
You see a lot of strange concepts displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show, but this one caught our eye. There is something charming/retro about this ultra lightweight, air cooled single from Yamaha. Although Yamaha isn’t saying, it doesn’t look like this machine could weigh more than 150 pounds. The tire sizes look like they come from a mountain bike/beach cruiser bicycle, so one would have to wonder how they would hold up to even semi-aggressive cornering. Nevertheless, if you value simplicity, this is an attractive concept.
Here is the sum total of what Yamaha has had to say about the Y125 MOEGI prior to the show:
“This concept model is a fresh embodiment of Yamaha design philosophy that combines the familiar look and feel of a bicycle in a motorcycle. Mounting a world standard 125cc class engine on a slim, lightweight frame, this model is designed to offer good fuel economy with an easy and enjoyable ride.
